Winners of the 2006 Brigg Fiddle Festival Busking competition, Shiftipig play traditional Irish and Scottish music and their own material on a variety of instruments. Formed in 2003, they have played in a variety of venues in the region, recording their first CD at Fairview studios Willerby last year. They were invited to appear at the Beverley Folk Festival Fringe in 2005 and 2006.
At the core of the band are Hessle based Liz (whistles and vocals) and Patrick Wainwright (Bodhran, percussion and vocals) and their teenage daughters Heather (flute, whistles) and Hannah (flute, cello, whistles). The band have recently been joined by fiddler Jane Beharrell. Richard Case (their original fiddler) who has moved out of the area will play with them for Beverley Folk Festival and other events. Other band members are Peter Halkon (Cittern, guitar and vocals) and Jim Dennison (guitar).
Hannah and her younger sisters Bryony and Lydia dance with Hull Irish Dancers. Liz and Hannah are also members of the City of Hull Pipe Band, and have played the highland pipes at a number of major events such as the opening of the KC stadium, Hull and other civic events. Both Irish dancing and the Highland pipes are often incorporated into their act.
